Royal Caribbean and Carnival cruise ships are some of the oldest and most well known cruise lines in the industry. They are still the most popular and best rated cruise ships today for families and couples of all ages. Although there are similarities between the cruise lines and they are always offering Caribbean cruise deals on their packages, making them a great choice for the cost conscious traveler, there are some differences to be aware of in the two companies.

Differences

Royal Caribbean and Carnival cruise ships have only minor differences in regard to the staterooms. The square footage is approximately the same as well as the bed sizes and amenities in the rooms. Carnival cruise lines have a little better DVD and newly released movie set up in their staterooms and Royal Caribbean has a hair dryer in each of theirs, so the differences are really not marked.

There was not a whole lot of difference in the deck space between Royal Caribbean and Carnival cruise ships. There was a difference in the amount of passengers allowed on the ships however, so that the decks felt smaller on the Monarch, which seemed to make the Carnival cruise ships the better choice in this arena. It is not a good feeling to be closed in by people when onboard a boat on the open sea.

The Royal Caribbean and Carnival cruise ships were also comparable in regard to the amenities, although Carnival seems to win again. Carnival ships offer three pools instead of two which, when combined with a lesser number of passengers on the ship, allows for a lot of room in the pools. Royal Caribbean pools, with only two, make it hard to find space and are crowded all the time.

Despite these minor differences, Royal Caribbean and Carnival cruise ships are still very comparable in price and other amenities. They travel to many of the same ports and offer similar excursions. They both specialize their activities for the youth according to age groups, making it a wonderful experience for all, even teen. There is also the move on each line to allow teens to participate more fully in excursions and spa activities, which tends to make them feel more grown up and allows them time with parents apart from younger siblings. Whatever the vacation with either of these providers, it is important to plan in advance, since their popularity ensures they fill up fast.
