The latest voyage of this ninety-one year-old traveler brought her to Antarctica. She was able to witness the land with her very own eyes; Antarctica stretched out before her. She?d traveled twice to this area before. This was the first time she?d actually seen Antarctica, though. The plane may not have touched the ground, but they did fly over the land.
Mountain peaks, glaciers and fjords were visible during her four hour flight. They even got within 300 feet of the ground. Fog shrouded one mountain range they flew past. The clear sky and bright sun made for perfect viewing weather. Very cold air temps accompanied them, though the Antarctic summer was just coming to an end. A scientist, based in Antarctica, was able to be both tour guide and lecturer during the flight. You’ll get further resources on antarctic cruise by visiting there.
Because she?s a birder, our traveler really wanted to see penguins. Though she didn?t see any on the flight, her daughter was able to see a colony of penguins in the distance. They also cruised the Falkland Islands off Argentina’s coast. She boarded yet another boat to get to the East Falkland Island. Hundreds of Magellan penguins live on one beach there. These are the tallest of the penguins.
After flying from the United States for sixteen hours, they cruised from a South American city. Aside from visiting many South American ports, cruise passengers were given the opportunity to jump into the ship’s pool. Ignoring the air temperatures of 35 degrees, the ninety-one year old took to the water. She got a certificate for having done so.
After reaching Rio, she flew out. She had toured Santiago after being driven there when the cruise ship reached Chile. The three week-long cruise offered excellent weather. All passengers saw the Southern Cross, a notoriously difficult to find constellation, in the clear night sky. You can get the best great antarctic cruise information by visiting this website.
In a previous trip to South America, the tourist was able to cruise the continent?s major river system and visit a big city. Seeing the loss of bird habitat in the area around the river is of great concern to our traveler. She even visited Africa and went on Safari. She?d been to, too, so Antarctica was the last of the continents she needed to visit. She did that with her four hour flight above Antarctica.
