Can you believe it is nearly 100 years since the sinking of the Titanic.
It seems absolutely incredible that it is coming up to 100 years ago since this awful event happened.
As we all know the Titanic was a truly magnificent vessel for its day, but do you know how much it would have cost to sail on this sea vessel back in 1912?
If you were lucky enough to be a First-Class passenger, for one of their parlour suites you would have been looking at paying approximately 4,350 US Dollars. In today’s money this equates to about 50,000 Dollars. If you had a bit more money to play with you could have had one of their most expensive rooms and this would nowadays set you back 80,000 US Dollars.
Even though First-Class passengers had already paid a lot of money for their tickets, they still had to pay additional money for activities, for example a swim was about 25c and a game of squash was 50c.
The third-class passenger’s ticket cost them 35 Dollars, which would be approximately 620 US Dollars today. There were sometimes as many as 10 people per room, so at times the rooms had to be divided between males and females, so families were often split.
The Titanic had its own newspaper publication which was called the Atlantic Daily Bulletin. The paper was prepared every day on the ship and it contained news articles and advertisements. It also had details about society gossip, the daily menu, and stock prices.
On April 8th 2012, there is going to be a Titanic Memorial Cruise setting sail.
Personally speaking I cannot think of anything worse and would much prefer to set out on a Galapagos Cruise. Imagine sailing around the beautiful Galapagos Islands and seeing all the beautiful and wondrous things. This has surely got to be more appealing than following the doomed Titanic route?
