If you have every taken out a charter yacht for a while you will probably understand the temptation to take one out for longer. This can be an extremely enjoyable way to spend a few days but I is surprising how many people neglect to arrange yacht insurance protection for this event.

Insurance is always recommended but there are some instances where it is more important than others; for example, if you were interested in chartering a private yacht for a weeklong trip, travel insurance would be more important for you than it would be if you were only looking to charter a private yacht for a few hours. This belief is brought about by the fact that an insurance is arranged when the yacht is chartered.

The charter yacht insurance that was arranged is purely for incidents involving the vessel and the crew so anyone on guest on board and their personal possessions are not covered by this. There is usually very little that goes wrong on these chartered yachts and most trips are uneventful but what if you did need to claim and had decide against travel insurance?

There are many aspects to travel insurance including policies that will pay compensation should a trip be cut short or medical attention is required. Although you are able to tailor make these travel insurance policies, certain aspects should always be included, irrespective of circumstances.

Accidental death is something that you will want as part of a travel insurance package because whilst most private yacht charters result in successful, safe trips, there is always a chance that an accident could occur. Unfortunately, the chartering of a private yacht often means that you are out at the mercy of the waters and this means that should an accident occur the chances for grave results are high. Do not take it for granted that your travel insurance policy will include accident death cover and if it doesn’t, have it added.

As often as not, personal possessions are something that is often claimed for so you will need to make sure you travel insurance covers these to a high enough level. Although it is advised that you leave many of your valuables safe at home, you may want to bring some items with you and if that is the case, you will want to make sure that your travel insurance covers all baggage that gets lost, stolen, or damaged.

You may find that there are limits set to how much you can claim so look over the policy inclusions and exclusions section carefully before agreeing to it. As you can see, travel insurance is important to any trip, but particularly the chartering of a private yacht; however, the good news is that it can be acquired for a reasonable price.
